Sing together this holiday season.

I started writing a rather lengthy note about the power of singing together… but alas, I realized I’d probably be preaching to the choir.  So.. I’ll cut right to the chase with you on this.

I want to encourage you to host a public sing-along or caroling event in your home, work place, school or community this holiday season.

Working as the event coordinator for this year’s World Singing Day global sing-along event this past October, I witnessed first hand, the joy that takes place when people gather to sing together to celebrate our common humanity.  Sometimes, (actually, more often than not!) we should all sing just for the joy of it!

To get started with your holiday sing-along, download my song sheets or slideshow and you’ll be ready to have an instant holiday karaoke party. Use your imagination and get your community singing together.

Happy Holidays and stay ENTHUSIC out there!

Educators: It's so important to get our communities singing together for fun every now and then and as educators, it's good to remind our students, and their parents, that singing doesn't always need to be about performing. Let your imagination run wild. Walk the streets downtown. Walk the halls of the hospital. Ask your choir members to host a holiday sing-along the week before break as a recruitment tool.

In the workplace: Gentle remind your boss that teams accomplish more when they incorporate the arts into our work and their daily schedules.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT COPYRIGHTED MUSIC!

It is NOT LEGAL to publish the lyrics of copyrighted songs without permission.

40 of the songs included in this slideshow/song sheets ARE IN PUBLIC DOMAIN.
42 of the songs included in this slideshow/song sheets ARE NOT IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN.

What does that mean to you?

That means that when a song is in the public domain, it’s ok to share the lyrics and melody without permission from the composers. When you see one of these songs in the slideshow or in the song sheets, you will find the lyrics and your group can probably sing them acapella easily.

When a song is NOT in the public domain, it means it is NOT LEGAL to share the lyrics so I have provided a short history about the song and perhaps some information about the recording artists that performed them or made them famous.  The songs are all linked to an online video and sometimes the lyrics are shared there.

VIDEO LINK INFORMATION:
Countless hours were spent searching for just the right video for each song.  I wanted to expose singers to a wide variety of musical genres so you will find videos of all kinds.  There are videos featuring groups such as  Pentatonix, Gwen Stefani, Burle Ives, The Boston Philharmonic, Faith Hill,  Julie Andrews, Nat King Cole, Chuck Berry, Michael Jackson, Bing Crosby just to name a few.   With over 80 songs included, there are over 100 videos hyperlinked throughout both documents because some songs have two or three different video links.

SafeYouTube:  I’ve also taken a great deal of time to share those videos safely.   Unless video permissions don’t allow for 3rd party sharing, all of the YouTube videos are displayed with a SafeTouTube link so there’s none of that YouTube junk going on all over the screen for your easily distracted singers.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THIS PRODUCT:

*IN THE CLASSROOM/ASSEMBLY or PERSONAL HOME SETTING:

Project the Slideshow onto your classroom screen, be sure you’ve got an internet connection and a quality sound system, and start singing together!

*IF YOU ARE GOING CAROLING:
If you plan to walk around and carol, I may suggest selecting one strong singer in your group who could carry a device (chrome book, iPad or other device)  and they could be the lyric leader for everyone else to follow..   Most people just need a reminder on what verse comes next and then often times they all know the chorus.  And really...who wants to see a group of carolers all staring at their own devices anyway right?  The goal is to sing together and pass along smiles and good wishes for the holidays!
